研究内容
最初に関心を持った分野は第二言語の音声習得ですが、米国でContent-Based Instruction（CBI：内容重視教育）で英語を教えて初めて言語と内容がいかに密接に結びついているか、内容の学習なくして言語習得はありえないことを痛感しました。CBIの一形態である小学校のImmersion Educationや大学のEnglish Medium Instruction（EMI）に興味を持っています。
I began my career by conducting research on second language phonetics and phonology. During my teaching experiences with content-based instruction in the US, I came to realize that language and content are intricately interconnected, and language learning never occurs without concurrent content learning, and vice versa. My primary areas of interest are immersion education in elementary school and English medium instruction at the university level.

英語教育や応用言語学では、国内だけでは解決できない様々な課題が山積みされています。英語圏の研究から学ぶだけでなく、日本と近い環境にあるアジアなどからも学ぶ必要があります。日本国内の英語教育の課題を国際的な視点から学ぶことが不可欠です。そのため、アジアや欧米からの学生や研究生などと学びながら、国際的な課題解決に貢献していくことを目的としています。

The fields of English language teaching and applied linguistics are facing a myriad of complicated issues that cannot be solved solely within our domestic context. This necessitates our engagement with research findings not only from English-speaking countries but also from Asian countries that share many of the same challenges as Japan. It is imperative that we address domestic issues in English language teaching from an international perspective. Therefore, the goal of my seminar is to contribute to the solution of a variety of challenges in these fields by working with overseas graduate students, visiting scholars, and students.

学部生へのメッセージ
学部の4年間は広い視野から英語教育や応用言語学を学んできたはずですが、英語を学習したり、教えたりすることは想像以上に複雑です。英語教育に関わる者は真のプロでなければ、多様化する教育形態に応えることができません。学部教育は、その基盤に過ぎず、真に英語教育に貢献するためには大学院は不可欠です。
You have studied English language teaching and applied linguistics as undergraduate students for four years, but learning and teaching English is much more complicated than one might expect. Those engaged in English language teaching must be genuinely professional; otherwise, they may struggle to adapt to the various instructional models. An undergraduate program offers a solid foundation, but a graduate program is absolutely essential for aspiring teachers and researchers in the future.
